Ewer, Moscow 1869, monogram of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov

🇬🇧 Extremely rare and very large ewer in solid silver with Moscow hallmarks for the year 1869 and the assayer's mark of Viktor Savinsky. It also bears a rectangular master goldsmith's hallmark in Cyrillic. "M "Sh"". which we could not identify. On the belly of the ewer is engraved a large monogram in capital letters MH or therefore MN in Roman alfabet, topped with a Russian imperial crown. This learns us that  this object  very probably belonged to Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov (Petershof 1832-Cannes 1909), youngest son of Tsar Alexander I of Russia and brother of Tsar Alexander II. The style of the ewer, which is close to traditional Caucasian objects, and the date of its manufacture (1869) seem to corroborate this provenance, since Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich was the Viceroy of the Caucasus and commander of its army from 1862 to 1881. With its 42 cm height, this ewer is exceptionally large and bears witness to the great prestige of its illustrious owner. It weighs 915 grams

🇫🇷 Rarissime et très grande aiguière en argent massif aux poinçons de Moscou pour l'année 1869 et de l'essayeur Viktor Savinsky. Elle porte également un poinçon de maître orfèvre cyrillique rectangulaire "M Sh", que nous n'avons pas pu identifier.
Sur le ventre de l'aiguière est gravé un grand monogramme en majuscules cyrillique MH ou MN en alfabet romain, sommé d'une couronne impériale russe. Il s'agit vraisemblablement d'un objet ayant appartenu au Grand-Duc Mikhaïl Nikolaïevitch Romanov(Petershof 1832-Cannes 1909), fils cadet  du tsar Alexandre I de Russie et frère du tsar Alexandre II.
Le style de l'aiguière qui se rapproche des objets caucasiens traditionnels et la date de sa fabriquation (1869) semblent corroborer cette provenance car le Grand-Duc Mikhaïl Nikolaïevitch fut le Vice-Roi du Caucase et commandant de son armée de 1862 à 1881.
Avec ses 42 cm de hauteur, cette aiguière est exceptionnellement grande et  témoigne du grand prestige de son illustre propriétaire.
Elle pèse un très généreux 915 grammes.

🇳🇱 Uiterst zeldzame en zeer grote kan in massief zilver met keurmerken voor Moskou en voor het jaar 1869 en ook van de keurmeester Viktor Savinsky.  Er is ook een rechthoekig Cyrillisch zilversmidskenmerk "M Sh", dat we niet hebben kunnen identificeren.
Op de buik van de kan is een groot monogram gegraveerd in Cyrillische hoofdletters MH of in het Romeinse alfabet : MN, bekroond met een Russische keizerskroon. Waarschijnlijk behoorde de kan toe aan groothertog Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov (Petershof 1832-Cannes 1909), de jongste zoon van tsaar Alexander I van Rusland en broer van tsaar Alexander II.
De stijl van de kan, die dicht bij traditionele Kaukasische voorwerpen ligt, en de fabricagedatum (1869) lijken deze herkomst te bevestigen, aangezien groothertog Michail Nikolajevitsj de onderkoning van de Kaukasus en bevelhebber van zijn leger was van 1862 tot 1881.
Met zijn hoogte van 42 cm is deze kan uitzonderlijk groot en getuigt van het grote prestige van zijn illustere eigenaar. Gewicht: 915 gram.
